Georiga Tech is fortunate to have a highly engaged and active set of student organizations working on reducing the Institute's environmental impact.  From the very beginning, students have essential to our sustainability efforts, from recycling to renewable energy.

Net Impact Speakers Series

Want to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and corporate social responsibility? Join a student organization in the College of Management focusing on corporate social responsibility.

Engineering Students without Borders

Want to implement a sustainable technology solution in a community that needs our help? Join Engineering Students Without Borders, a student organization in the Colleg eof Engineering that plans, designs, and implements sustainable technology solutions.

Solar Decathlon

Georgia Tech participated in an exciting national competition on the design and construction of a solar house on the Mall in Washington D.C. in 2007. The Decathlon Team came in sixth. We are very proud of them. Their entry is on campus and open for tours.

TI:GER

Interested in moving sustainable technologies to the marketplace? The Technologial Innovation Generating Economic Results (TI:GER) program is a unique approach to preparing students for the challenges of commercializing new technologies and delivering innovative products to the marketplace.

Business Plan Competition

Have a wining innovation? Tech's business plan competition includes a special award for sustainability. Another sustainability award was added to the program in 2009. Called Ideas to Serve (I2S), it rcognizes ideas for improving lives and supporting the environment. It does not require a formal written business plan, instead focusing on the social benefits of market ready ideas.

EcoCar Challenge

The EcoCAR Challenge is a three-year competition that builds on the 19-year history of DOE advanced vehicle technology competitions by giving engineering students the chance to design and build advanced vehicles that demonstrate leading-edge automotive technologies, with the goal of minimizing the environmental impact of personal transportation and illustrating pathways to a sustainable transportation future.

Students Develop A Solar-Electric Hybrid Car

The Georgia Tech Solar Jackets, a student organization, has successfully converted a 2001 Audi TT from a gas-powered sports car to a solar-assisted electric vehicle (SAEV) - the first of its kind. More Info.

Environmental Alliance

The Enviornmental Alliance focuses on the promotion and awareness of responsible environmental advocacy both through educating the public to demand higher environmental ideals and communication to community leaders the importance of ecologically responsible policies

Trailblazers

The primary focus of this group is to run grassroots campaigns on a wide range of environmental/political/and social issues in order to promote the greater goal of building a more sustainable campus, community, and world.

Community Supported Agriculture

Community Supported Agriculture (a student initiative) is bringing a Campus Supported Agriculture Program to campus.

Tech Beautification Day

Tech Beautification Day (TBD) was started in 1998 as a day of service where students could give back to their campus through a combination of general cleanup, landscaping, and bringing together the Georgia Tech Community as a whole. Since then, TBD has grown immensely in terms of volunteer numbers and variety of projects. We are now celebrating the eleventh year anniversary of this community service event held each spring on Georgia Tech’s campus.

Student Government Association

The Georgia Institute of Technology Student Government Association strives to enhance the quality of student life at Georgia Tech by committing ourselves to the service and involvement of our fellow students. SGA is the student's voice in Institute affairs. We are dedicated to making information regarding SGA readily accessible, and we hope that you will find the contents of this Web site useful. Please contact us with your questions or comments. The SGA actively advocates sustainability and student involvement in campus sustainability.

Resident Housing Administration, Wasted Watts

The RHA is a student organization providing leadership through, and with, Housing on campus. Since Georgia Tech has approximately 8,000 students living on campus, this is an important student organization. For example, in 2008, the RHA was able to organize and manage Georgia Tech's first energy competition between residence halls.
