Stewardship at Georgia Tech is making our campus a living laboratory of sustainability. We want our students, faculty, and staff to live and work in a sustainable environment and carry that experience, way of life, and way of thinking with them as they venture into the world. Stewardship is integrated into Sustainability at Georgia Tech.
We are partners with ISS (Institute of Sustainable Systems, formerly ISTD).
In addition to its education and research roles, Georgia Tech as an institution, demonstrates sustainable practices. This website focuses on sustainability in Georgia Tech's operations, maintenance, construction, and resource management as well as our Auxiliary Services such as Housing, Dining, Athletics, etc.
The Facilities Department is responsible for providing appropriate and well maintained facilities for those persons on the Georgia Tech campus. Our Design & Construction department provides design and construction management and contracting services for renovation and capital projects. Design standards are the responsibility of Facilities. Our Operations & Maintenance department provides recycling, custodial services, grounds maintenance and landscaping, painting, vehicle repair, staging, plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning, keys and locks, and structural repairs. The department is also responsible for utilities and energy conservation such as electrical, steam, chilled water, Title V Air Standard Requirements and other utilities distribution. Recycling and Landscape Services fall under the Operations and Maintenance department in Facilities.
Capital Planning & Space Management develops enhancements to the Master Plan, supports the Master Plan implementation committee, and serves as a resource to the institute in the area of Master Planning. They are responsible for facility space planning including space needs analysis, feasibility studies, developing and justifying Capital Budgets and conceptual programs for construction projects. They provide Space Utilization studies for the institution and are responsible for development of architectural programming for construction projects. Landscape Architecture and the Landscape Master Plan fall under Capital Planning and Space Management.
Auxiliary Services facilitates the creation of community; extends the learning environment beyond the classroom; enhances quality of campus life; supports the academic and research mission of Georgia Tech; seeks to set the standards for excellence on this campus and across the country, and; is financially self sustaining. Auxiliary Services, among other functions, provides Housing, Housing Maintenance, Parking & Alternative Transportation and Food Services to the students on campus.
Environmental Health and Sciences (EHS) provides guidance and oversight to mandated programs, responds,concerns about indoor environments, conducts safety inspections of laboratories and support areas. provides fire safety services, processes and manages hazardous materials for proper disposal, provides emergency response for hazardous materials incidents/ accidents (spills), and provides safety training.
